Develop 3 Reasons for Support
Each reason will be the main focus of your three
body paragraphs for your analytical essay
ESSAY FORMAT
INTRODUCTION
BODY PARAGRAPH: Reason #1
BODY PARAGRAPH: Reason #2
BODY PARAGRAPH: Reason #3
CONCLUSION
THE INTRODUCTION
1. An explanation or summary which shows that
you understand the question.
2. A THESIS STATEMENT - this does not have to
be the first sentence!!!
3. Your introduction paragraph should offer a
ROAD MAP as an explanation of the direction your
essay will take.
THESIS STATEMENT
Writing a thesis statement…..
One sentence
Tells reader what the question is about
Establishes the POV (point of view) the writer is
taking
Sets the mood for the paper
Prepares the reader for fact and details that follow
BODY PARAGRAPHS
Topical Transition or Hook Sentence
States your main reasons of support in each
paragraph
Contains clear development of your points or
arguments
DETAILS!!!
End paragraph with a closing sentence
CONCLUSION
A clear statement of the answer to the
question
A summary of the points made in the essay
A reiteration of the strongest points
Summarize how information in body
paragraphs proves your point
THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND
Use third person (avoid “I”, “We”, “you”, “they”)
Include ideas, points, or evidence which give, in your
opinion, the best and most accurate answer to the
questions
Arrange points in order which make logical sense
Always edit and proofread
Be sure to type and use 1.5 spacing
