Grading When a student’s score in the grade book are below proficiency, consider asking your student the following questions: ● What standards do you think you still need to learn? ● When was the last time you practiced / worked on [standard]? ● When was the last time you were assessed (i.e. test, quiz, project) on [standard]? ● When is your next opportunity to reassess on [standard]? ● What practice, studying and/or re-teaching opportunities have you completed in preparation for the next reassessment opportunity? When contacting a teacher about below proficiency standards in the grade book, consider asking the following questions: ● When was the last time all students were assessed on [standard]? ● When is the next opportunity my student will have to reassess on [standard]? ● What practice, studying and/or re-teaching opportunities should my student take advantage of related to [standard] before reassessing? Entries in the grade book that count towards the final grade will be limited to course or grade level standards.** 2. Extra credit will not be given at any time. 3. Students will be allowed multiple opportunities to demonstrate their understanding of classroom standards in various ways. Retakes and revisions will be allowed. 4. Teachers will determine grade book entries by considering multiple points of data emphasizing the most recent data and provide evidence to support their determination. 5. Students will be provided multiple opportunities to practice standards independently through homework or other class work. Practice assignments and activities will be consistent with classroom standards for the purpose of providing feedback. Practice assignments, including homework, will not be included as part of the final grade. • **Exceptions will be made for midterm and/or final summative assessments. These assessments, limited to no more than one per nine-week period may be reported as a whole in the grade book. Expectations • Be here! • Your choices now define who you will be • Where you are right now does not have to determine where you will end up • Respect for peers, self, staff, and property • Do no harm with words or actions • Be a Spartan! Expectations • 2007 Iowa Law- Bullying defined • (1) Places the student in reasonable fear of harm to the student's person or property. (2) Has a substantially detrimental effect on the student's physical or mental health. (3) Has the effect of substantially interfering with a student's academic performance. (4) Has the effect of substantially interfering with the student's ability to participate in or benefit from the services, activities, or privileges provided by a school Parking • All students that drive to school will need to register their car in the high school office. To register and receive a parking pass students will need to have the make, model, and license plate of the vehicle. There is no cost to register and students can register multiple vehicles. Parking Seminar Daily 11:16-11:46 11:49-12:19 Developing relationships, grade check-in, executive function skills, intervention, team buidling Required for 9-10th graders, 11th graders on Mondays Mondays- Homework/Grade check-in “Stay put day” Tuesdays- Move day- Club Meetings/Music Practice Wednesdays- Move day- Club Meetings/Music Practice Thursdays- Move day- Club Meetings/Music Practice Fridays- Team building activities “Stay put day” Attendance • Notify the office of a student absence. • Office will code as UNEXCUSED until written documentation is given for absence. • Examples of excused absences: – – – – – – – Medical documented Illness (From Doctor or School Nurse) Medical documented appointments (Physician, Dentist, etc.) Funeral Court documented appointments (Juvenile Court, DHS, etc.) School Sponsored Activities Religious Holiday College Visit (High School) Attendance • A parent or guardian may call his/her student out of school 6 days a year for other reasons. These days are considered unexcused because they do not meet the definition on the previous slide. Parent requests for the absence to be excused must be accompanied by documentation. Without documentation, the absence will be unexcused. • • Any day(s) beyond six, without a documented excuse for the absence, is considered truant. Steps will begin towards mediation for excessive absenteeism. Steps in the Attendance Process: – Step 1: 6th non-excused day= Letter from school notifying parent/guardian that his/her 6 days have been reached and future absences require documentation. – Step 2: 9th non-excused day= Phone contact and/or meeting with school officials. – Step 3: 12th non-excused day= Mandatory Administrative Attendance Hearing.
