Moving and Choosing
• Moving and Choosing is a communitybased coalition promoting healthy growth
and development and the prevention of
child and adolescent obesity.
• Key objectives target building healthy
school environments and improving
access to high quality curriculum
education in nutrition and physical activity.
• Community partnerships key.
Healthy School Network
• Vision - All students will belong to school
communities that are committed to
promoting healthy eating and active living
• Goal – Increase lead teachers ability to
facilitate active living and healthy eating in
his/her school. In turn this will influence
other teacher, parents, students and the
school environment.
Lead Teachers
• Lead teachers play an important role in
today’s schools. They are part of the
Healthy School Network influencing other
teachers, parents and students and
encouraging healthy eating and active
living in their communities.
• The network supports sharing of ideas,
resources and expertise
Health Promotion Facilitators
• Facilitate network
• Liase with Lead Teachers throughout
Palliser Health Region
• Liase with School facilitators and health
resource people to ensure collaboration
and coordination
• Support Moving and Choosing Initiatives
Lead Teachers mobilize the school
community by:
• Participating in networking meetings and
inservices
• Promoting healthy eating and active living
initiatives
• Consulting Moving and Choosing
facilitators and school health resource
people and school administrators
• Identifying training and professional
development needs
Lead Teachers mobilize the school
community by:
• Promoting awareness of curriculum
supports
• Being a role model and motivating others
• Identifying strengths and opportunities to
promote healthy schools and families
• Promoting awareness of funding options for
schools to sponsor health initiatives.
