Growing up in Karachi, Pakistan

Schooling:
 Benazir Bhutto was taught hard work by her parents in her early when she had to
take care of her siblings when her parents were away.Her had work helped her
pull through to be a great prime minister a visionary in the future. She left her
home early in her life at sixteen to go to Harvard’s Radcliffe College.
 When she was young Benazir would refuse to where a burqa (a long, loose
garment covering the whole body, worn in public by many Muslim women.)

Rebellious Benazir Bhutto
 Benazir Bhutto was a very rebellious person starting when she was
young. She refused to wear the burqa which according to Islam was
expected of women in Pakistan. She went against the government and
the Islamic religion by going out in public with out her burqa. It only
made sense that she would be such a large advocate for democracy.
She went against thoughts of a Islamic country never being able to
become free and secure.
Studies and Education
Benazir Bhutto studied at Harvard's
Radcliffe College were she obtained her
undergraduate degree. She later moved
on to England's Oxford University.
Life as a Prime Minister
 Becoming a Prime Minister in Pakistan isn’t very easy especially because benazir
Bhutto was a women who fought for democracy. Although many Muslims liked
Benazir Bhutto there was still many extremists who didn’t want her to succeed
with her transformation. She was thrown out of office and yelled at in protest and
all the hatred came down to Benazir Bhutto being shot. December 1, 2007
Benazir Bhutto was assassinated before being elected into office again. Beanzir
Bhutto was so amazing for the people of Pakistan that the only way she could be
stopped was to be killed and she new it.
Defining Moment
• Benazir Bhutto returns to Pakistan. Her
second term ended as prime minister from
faulty corruption charges. Benazir new even
more than ever that changing Pakistan would
be the hardest thing she will ever do. As her
place in office came crumbling down before
her because of president of Pakistan Leghari
she never stopped fighting for what was
right. Being stopped was Benazir’s largest
motivation.

Benazir Bhutto and the P.P.P.
• The P.P.P. (Pakistan People’s Party) was
formed for a democratic Pakistan. The P.P.P.
was created by Benazir’s father, Ali Bhutto.
After Ali Bhutto died Benazir took over the
leader-ship of the P.P.P. While Benazir was
running for prime minister in 1988 the P.P.P.
was a major supporter of hers. The P.P.P.
was very important for Benazir’s overall
political success.

• A burqa was and still is very important for
Pakistani women to wear.
• Nai Umangein was a musician during the
time when Benazir Bhutto was becoming
prime minister.
• King Kong was a popular movie at that time
as well as other American music, movies,
and celebrities like Michael Jackson and
Madonna.

• Benazir Bhutto showed that Pakistan could
be democratic. Benazir Bhutto extremely
changed politics for women.

After Benazir Bhutto was elected as Prime Minister in 1988 women in the
Parliament more than doubled showing how large the impact from benazir had
on freedom and democratic politics in Pakistan. Although the numbers are not
extreme, Bhutto still really helped Pakistan start to form a democratic country.
