The majority of teenage pregnancies are
unplanned and around half end in abortion
Damage to health and well-being
Limit education and career prospects.
Children born to teenage mothers are more likely
to experience a range of negative outcomes
Children 3 times more likely to become teenage
parents themselves







Young people with early onset of sexual activity
Children in care and care leavers – 3 times
more likely to be a parent under 18
Conduct disorders, mental health problems and
involvement in crime
Some ethnic groups:
Teenagers with a previous pregnancy:
Young people who “dislike” school, are
disengaged or have low educational attainment
Daughters of teenage mothers.
The issue is complex as there are a range of factors that are as sociated with
whether a teenager becomes pregnant
