What Was His Early Life Like?
Francisco Vasquez de Coronado was
born in Salamanca, Spain in 1510. His
mother’s name was Isabel de Lujan and his
father’s name was Juan Vasquez
Coronado. He was 25 when he sailed to
New Spain which is now called Mexico. He
became the Governor of Nueva Galicia.
What Was His Life’s Work?
He heard about the seven cities of
gold in New Spain. He set out in 1540 with
300 soldiers and over 1000 Indians. When
he got there he searched and searched for
two years. But all that work did not pay off
he did not find any gold.
How Did He Die?
Francisco Vasquez de Coronado died
in 1554 in Spain. He died because his health
badly deteriorated from injuries and the toll
of his strenuous journeys.
Was His exploration Famous?
Yes, his exploration was famous. If it
wasn't for the journey the Grand Canyon
may have never been found. He was the
first to see Buffalo on the Great Plains.
What Do People Think About
His Leading Of Explorations?
Some people say he managed the
trip to the seven cities of gold poorly and
treated the Indians terrible. Also people say
he led one of the greatest European
expedition.
