Team Riding Presentation
• The purpose of this seminar is to educate
and inform members about the benefits of
team riding and the suggested planning and
conduct of a team ride. This should result
in:
– A reduction in riding risk
– An increase in riding enjoyment
– A greater sense of togetherness and pride

• Why a team?
– There are several styles of group riding
• Mass Riding – Doing their own thing
• Leisure Riding – Loose rules and conduct
• Team Riding – Structured planning and ride
conduct, having set “Rules of the Road” and
actively working together to make the ride safer and
more enjoyable

• Responsibilities – All
– At a minimum the Lead and Drag should have
operating CB’s
– All Team Members should be able to use hand
signals effectively

• Ride Conduct
– Teams comprised of no more than 5 bikes
– Teams spaced at a minimum of 200 yards (7 sec) on the
highway
– Maintain the 2 second following rule (1 sec to the offset
bike)
– Maintain lane position
– Leads call for Single File formation as appropriate
– Points out all road hazards (road kill, pot holes, etc.)

Enters the traffic flow safely and efficiently
Passes traffic safely as a team on the highway
Passes traffic individually on two lane roads
Compress the formation at stop signs or traffic
signals
