The Virtual Border Guard
• BlueServo
Imagine yourself as being an immigrant who has gone unnoticed.
You are going to write a diary that details the real story of what it is
like to be the Mexican immigrant worker in New York...
- Use the past tense
First person viewpoint (ie. “I”) and make it personal
Chronological order (i.e. Order of time)
Use adjectives to project the mood and describe your feelings
e.g. How would you feel if you got caught?
Try not to just describe, but explain
Use paragraphs for each section of your work
The information you have been given (facts sheet)
-
Describe your situation, feelings and plans. Why do you want to leave
Mexico?
Details of the push factors and pull factors (Social and Economic).
How you travelled over the border and what you did if you managed
it.
-
Any danger you experienced along the way; did you meet the border
patrols?
In your final paragraph you suggest whether your quality of life is
better now than in the past.
