ERTMS case study
ERTMS (the European Rail Traffic Management System) was designed
to enable railway interoperability. It provides a European railway standard
for the development of signal and train control systems that enable more
efficient use of the rail system, increased capacity, enhanced safety and
full interoperability.
Main Advantages:
•
•
•
•
Interoperability of railway networks
Increase in safety and efficiency of rail traffic
Increase in railway capacity and performance with shorter headways
Lower production and management costs
Overall, Ansaldo STS has a portfolio of about 4000 km or ERTMS
railway lines and has fitted about 1500 vehicles with this system.
