Step-by-Step Set Up Guide for
Commodity Carnival

Step 1: Booth Set-Up Overview
• Wear your Commodity
Carnival hats!
• Place banner at back of
booth.
• Set up Station #1 “Invest
and Grow” on the table to
the left side of the booth.
• Set up Station #2 “Risk
Ranch” plinko board on the
right side of the booth.
Step 2: Set up Station #1
• Set up table and cover
with provided
tablecloth.
• Place scale, weight
conversion chart,
buckets, discs, and eggs
on the table
• Fill the 1-gallon bucket
with the corn/soybean
mix and place scoop in
the feed bucket.
• Fill each of the three
smaller buckets with a
different color gemthese buckets are your
inputs.
Step 3: Set up Station #2
• Place Risk Ranch board
opposite of the table.
• Place step stool for
smaller participants
behind the board.
Step 4: Play Commodity Carnival!
Station #1: Invest and Grow
1. Help participants fill their steer
(egg) with the feed in the large
bucket.
2. Fill egg with gems in the small
buckets representing health and
nutrition, production costs and
wages, and energy and resources.
3. Weigh the egg to determine the
break even cost of the
investments in the steer by using
the weight/cost conversion chart.
4. Give participant the
corresponding colored disc for
the weight of their steer.
Step 5: Risk Ranch
Station #2: Pig-Linko
5. Send the disc down the plinko
board, explaining the risk factors
on the board that could affect
market price.
6. The slot that the disc comes to
rest in is the final selling price of
their steer.
7. Using the weight/conversion
chart, determine if the selling
price is higher or lower than the
breakeven price to determine a
profit or loss.
Step 6: Prizes for All!
• All participants will receive a Commodity Carnival steer
paper hat!
Recommended guidelines for other prizes:
• Ribbons will be provided to anyone who plays and makes
a profit 3 times.
• Anyone making a profit five consecutive times will receive
a special steer stress ball.
