Our University
Department of Photonics and
Optoinformatics:
Integration of optics and
informatics
Every year our university
programming team takes part in
ACM Programming Contest and
often wins medals.
Strong potential in computer
science and physical modeling +
excellent results in optics =
optoinformatics

Research directions of our Laboratory
• Analytical study and numerical modeling of the
femtosecond supercontinuum generation
• Theoretical and experimental investigations of dynamic
holograms recording in fullerene solutions
• Analytical study and numerical modeling of a few-cycle
pulses self-focusing
• Theoretical investigation of electromagnetic properties
of the microwave photonic band-gap materials formed by
periodic 3D lattices of dielectric or metallic inclusions
• Investigation of low-coherent interferometry
Scientific researches of our laboratory colleagues
and their graduate and postgraduate students are
supported by Russian Foundation for Basic
Research (RFBR), Russian education Ministry funds
("Natural science", "Instrument-making",
"Radiophysics"), program "Universities of Russiafundamental researches", international programs US

Aims and targets
IFMO SPIE Student Chapter was established by the
students of IFMO interested in the deep study of
optics.
The aim of our chapter is to help our students
to publish their works in the international journals,
participate in the international conferences
worldwide and to find new friends in area of optics
and optical engineering.
The elders are sharing their experience with the
youngest, and every year new people join our
chapter.
The meeting of SPIE Student Chapters of M.V.
Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU) and
Saint-Petersburg State Institute of Fine Mechanics
and Optics (IFMO) 2002
The meeting of SPIE Student Chapters was held within the
frameworks of the Scientific School for Young Scientists
"Optics-2002" (Russia, Saint-Petersburg, October 14 -17,
2002), which was part of the International Optical Congress
"Optics-XXI". All the members of SPIE Student Chapter of
Saint-Petersburg State Institute of Fine Mechanics and
Optics took part in organization both - the Optical Congress
and the School.
