A key training requirement for anyone involved in the conduct of
clinical research is Good Clinical Practice (GCP) training. GCP is
the standard and guidelines to which all research is conducted.
Other guidelines and laws build on these standards.
• For details of the FREE online Good Clinical Practice training
available please visit the www.crncc.nihr.ac.uk/training

What C&I OFFERS you …….. Putting your research and
innovation into practice
• During 2011 we had over 70 active research studies going on
in various departments. We recruited over 1000 new patients
to take part in research.
• As a result of our staff’s commitment to engage patients in
research we were able to produce our results in over 100
publications which are being put into practice both in the UK
and internationally.
• More information on how research is being put into practice,
plus an up to date list of publications, can be found on
Camden and Islington NHS FT’s website.

How Local Research Networks help you
The development, set up and delivery of randomised controlled trials of interventions
(including prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and care) and other well designed studies.
LRNs can help you :
• Develop new research through Clinical Studies Groups, Task Forces and Writing
Groups
• Develop deliverable studies by providing local input into delivery plans to Chief
Investigators
• Set up studies, including local research governance approvals
• Identify of suitable NHS sites and recruitment of participants to studies
• Engage with commercial and non-commercial research funders
• Active involvement of patients and carers in all parts of the research process (PPI)

North Central London Research Network
• NoCLoR is a partnership between C&I FT, NHS Camden, NHS
Islington, and ~ 15 other Trusts/PCTs
• Provides Research Management and Governance (RM&G)
services across North London

Research Governance
Research governance improves research quality and safeguards
the public by:
- Enhancing ethical and scientific quality
-Promoting good practice
-Reducing adverse incidents
- Preventing poor performance and misconduct
www.dendron.org.uk
National Research Ethics Service (NRES)
• All research in the NHS must gain a favourable
opinion from an NHS Research Ethics Committee
(excludes audit or service evaluation)
• The process of applying to RECs was standardised in
March 2004
• Since April 2009, application is online through
‘integrated research application service’ IRAS
(includes R&D permissions)

Dementias & Neurodegenerative Diseases
Research Network (DeNDRoN)
• Our portfolio includes studies in dementias, Parkinson’s, Huntington’s and
Motor Neurone disease, and other neurodegenerative diseases
• DeNDRoN is made up of seven Local Research Networks, which cover
different regions of England.
• The Network employs more than 200 dedicated trained research support
staff operating in over 150 Trusts.
• We provide researchers with the practical support they need to make
clinical studies happen in the NHS, so that more research takes place
across England and more patients can take part.
