Part I is a computer based test with multimedia Overall part I pass rate for first time takers was 88% in 2010, this low pass rate has sparked interest and possible investigation Part II will have digital imaging 2011 Overall pass rate 89% in 2010- not a concern at this time

Upgrades & Updates

Website design and functionality- to track individual diplomate’s participation in MOC Developing future inclusions in MOC part II and IV- lifelong learning and performance in practice Helping create databases by specialty societies to support MOC part IV

Future

Partnering with orthopaedic specialty societies to create more value within MOC Meaningful feedback to ABOS diplomates to help with quality improvement Greater alignment of participation in MOC with reimbursement, state medical licensure and local credentialing Research- demonstrating the value to the public of certification and MOC

American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons American Orthopaedic Association Orthopaedic Research Society

OREF raises funds to support research and educational initiatives that increase knowledge of illness, injuries, and conditions affecting the musculoskeletal system, contribute to more effective treatments, and improve quality of life.

AOA Endowment Fund

As of 4/30/11, the AOA Endowment Fund, established in 1999, had a total value of more than $1.9 million: $1.8 million in cash, plus $170,000 in pledges and deferred gifts

The AOA designated giving account received $85,335 in endowment distributions from 2010 from the AOA Endowment Fund

155 donors have made contributions through OREF to the AOA Endowment Fund

AOA Endowment Fund The AOA Endowment Fund has a General Fund and four sub-funds, with these total values as of 4/30/11:

General Fund: $575,000

ABC Traveling Fellowship Fund: $756,000

Academics Fund: $196,000

North American Traveling Fellowship Fund: $404,000

Residents Conference Fund: $41,000

AOA Endowment Fund Since March 2009, OREF has retained Ellwood Associates as an investment consultant to assist in the selection and evaluation of investment managers and investment vehicles. Ellwood Associates follows the investment policy adopted by the OREF board which provides for the specific needs and objectives related to the endowment assets of OREF.

AOA Endowment Fund OREF Investment Objectives:

OREF Endowment funds are held with the objective of generating a long-term total return in excess of inflation and the assigned spending rate.

The funds are invested in a broadly diversified portfolio with a long term time horizon.

The expectation is that the total portfolio will outperform a blended benchmark of passive returns over the long-term.

AOA Endowment Fund OREF’s investment portfolio generated the following 2010 returns through December 31, 2010:

Total Portfolio: 10.0%

US Equities: 14.5% (47% of Portfolio)

Non-Us Equities: 14.1% (16% of Portfolio)

Fixed Income: 3.1% (37% of Portfolio) OREF’s Total Portfolio generated 3.6% in 1 st Quarter 2011 returns
