Groups The children will be in groups no bigger than 8 .

We will soon be asking the children who they would like to be with and we will try as hard as possible to meet these requests. We will inform the children of their groups on the ferry.

The children will have a ‘day group’ and will be assigned a group leader with whom they must stay for all of our day time activities. Regular head counts will be made throughout the days. At night, the children will have a leader to whom they must report if they have any problems.

Rooms

• Our rooms are all on the same floor of the hotel and staff bedrooms are distributed amongst the children.

• Children will be in rooms of 4 and so might be grouped differently to their day groups, whilst still trying to maintain friendship requests.

• All rooms are en suite. Towels are provided.

• Each room has key card entry. We will ask key cards to be shared one between two to ensure that no child can be unaccompanied at any time.

We will share with the children a ‘Code of Conduct’.

This will outline our expectations regarding behaviour.

The school has to pay a £100 deposit to guard against noise and/or breakages at the hotel. We will therefore insist on ‘best behaviour.’ In the event of the deposit being not refunded, we will pass this cost on to the parent/s of the children responsible.

Our accommodation - safety All rooms have toilets and so there will be no need for the children to leave their rooms once we have returned from the theatre. Children will be assigned to a member of staff and will be told where that adult’s room is.

If for any reason a child needs assistance at night they must report to their adult.

As we do not wish that any child is unaccompanied at any time, should they need to leave their room, they will have to wake a friend. No child is to be on their own at any time.

Our meal arrangements Our evening meal will be taken at Pizza Hut, The Strand Breakfast will be provided by Premier Inn and will be a buffet style with choices of cooked breakfast, croissant, cereals, toast, juice, hot drinks etc Our packed lunch will be provided for by the travel company and will consist of a sandwich, crisps, fruit and drink.

Please remember that you will need to provide a lunch for Day 1, preferably in a disposable bag.

Out and About in London • Safety is our priority • The children will be briefed before we leave about the procedure for what to do in the very unlikely event of getting lost.

• The children will be given a card which will have an emergency mobile telephone number on it.

• Should they get separated from the group, they are to stand still for 5 minutes. By this time they will most likely be missed and subsequently found.

• If after 5 minutes the child has not been reunited with the group, they must find an adult wearing a uniform, badge or logo of the venue.

This person will then be asked to phone the number on the card.

•Shower proof coat •Nightwear •Underwear for Day 2 Clarke on Thursday 4 th might cause blistering) What to pack In ‘hand luggage’ •Packed lunch and drinks for Day One . •Hat and sun cream (children will need to apply this themselves) In a smaller overnight bag (needs to be easy to carry!) •A ‘smart’ outfit for our theatre trip.

•A carrier bag for laundry •Toiletries – toothbrush, flannel, deodorant, hairbrush etc •Medication – all asthma sufferers MUST bring inhalers and these must stay with the children.

•All other medication must be clearly labelled and given to Mrs June •Please can the children wear comfortable shoes ( although we will not be doing a lot of walking, the children need to be comfortable – please don’t pack any brand new shoes that

Gadgets and electronic equipment If children wish to bring a camera, it will be their responsibility.

We are requesting that allowing!

no phones

be brought- the school will text parents to inform them of our safe arrival and we will be in touch should there be any emergency. Please support us in this decision – we are only away for one night after all! We will try to keep in touch through the schools website, time and WiFi Expensive items are high risk items – please leave them at home!

MONEY The only shops that we will be visiting will be at the Science Museum and a small gift shop at the London Eye but time is always limited.

We therefore recommend that £25 is plenty.

We would like the children to have the responsibility for looking after their own money. Money should be in a wallet or purse and carried in a back pack which must be zipped up at all times.

However, if you would prefer, named envelopes can be brought in to school during the week prior to the trip.

The elastic band trick!

Wrapping an elastic band around a wallet or purse helps to prevent pick pocketing as the rubber band causes friction and stops the wallet from being slipped unnoticed from a pocket or bag.

Friday 6 th June - All being well, we will be on the 6.30pm sailing from Portsmouth to Fishbourne.

Children will need to be collected at 7.15pm from the Fishbourne terminal. When collecting your child PLEASE do not take them before informing a member of staff.

Should we be late for any reason and our arrangements change, we will text you. Please ensure that the office has your current mobile number.

Any questions?
