Why use a template?
The hard work has already been done
for you
You know they look good!
There are several styles available
You can just cut & paste!!
You can personalize with colors, fonts
and pictures
Background Colors
Make sure you have a good contrast
between your background color and
your font color
Colored backgrounds will attract
attention
Simple backgrounds allow the content
to be the focus
Use white for busier posters
Fonts
Funky fonts do NOT work well
Stick to the classics
Serif fonts: have feet that keep the
eye moving – Times New Roman
Examples of bad fonts to use;
bare code
Blackadder
Curlz
Jokerman
Colors & Font sizes
Your poster will be viewed
from 3-4 feet away
Title between 96-144
Headers 50-80
Text no lower than 35
Color ratio at least 400 RGB
Sum total of all color RGB’s
RGB – red, green, blue
RGB color numbers
1) Right click
2) Format
background/Font
3) Choose Color
4) Custom Colors
5) Add & subtract –
black=0, white=765
Pictures
INSERT pictures rather than using
copy & past
Use good quality photographs – the
highest resolution you have access to.

Print an 8.5x11 preview of your
poster to see how it will look
Go to Print
Select your printer
Select the Scale to fit paper box
Get feedback from colleagues
