Through Key Stage 4
Years 10 & 11
Research has highlighted there’s a direct link
between parental involvement and
children’s performance in school. One
survey, commissioned by Becta , of 1,000
children and 1,000 parents of children came
to the following conclusion:
“Researchers have found a consistent link
between increasing parental engagement in
a students’ learning and improved
attendance, behaviour and achievement –
the parent/carer’s influence on a child’s
learning is more important than the
schools.”

Controlled
assessment replaced coursework
in GCSE subjects from September 2009.
Controlled assessment is an integral and
important part of the GCSE courses
Controlled assessment makes up a proportion
of the students final grade at the end of the
course.
Controlled assessment is defined as work
assigned to and completed by a student
during a course of study.
It is designed to measure skills that are not
effectively assessed by external assessment.
