Sinking the Sea….

Originally a version of Windows named Blackcomb was planned as the
successor of Windows Vista.

Developers wished to give emphasis on searching and querying data and
an advanced storage system called WinFS to enable such scenarios.

Blackcomb was renamed to Vienna in 2006 and again to Windows 7 in
2007.

Windows 7 was planned to be designed as “user-centric” and it also focus
on performance and improvements. To make it practical, the company uses
new tracing tools to measure the performance of the operating system in
many areas.
What is WinFS?

WinFS (Windows Future Storage) is the code name for the data storage
and management system developed by Microsoft.

WinFS includes relational databases for storage of information and allows
any type of information to be stored on it, provided there is a well-defined
schema for the type.

Individual data items are related together by relationships, which are either
inferred by the system or explicitly specified by the user.

As the data has a well-defined schema, any application can reuse the data.

Related data can be effectively stored and retrieved as relationships are
present for each data type.
Step to Windows 7—Flaws of Vista

One of the highly criticized feature of Windows Vista is the User Access
Control, which prompts up a dialog box seeking user’s permission to
continue or stop whenever a system-level change is made.

Even the default user account (Administrator account) which will be created
during installation could not bypass the UAC.

Only two features were present for UAC in Windows Vista. Turn on UAC or
Turn off UAC so that the user could not have much control.
