We believe that the right to enforce such membership restrictions is rooted in the freedom of association protected by the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. #UAssociationMeeting • 1. The women’s fraternities of the National Panhellenic Conference have the right to confine their membership to women and shall defend their right to exist as singlesex organizations. • 2. Auxiliaries. Each College Panhellenic shall denounce the participation of undergraduate Panhellenic women in men’s formal recruitment. No Frills Recruitment • What do you think this means? • What is an example of this? No Frills Recruitment • Abiding by the budget • A chapter should not be purchasing special recruitment outfits (identical t-shirts are acceptable if purchased for something other than recruitment i.e. philanthropy t-shirt) • Wearing your badge is encouraged • All decorations should be confined within the chapter house • No gifts should be given to potential new members until she accepts her bid – Favors, food, poems, letters, notes, clothing, etc. – If a PNM walks out with a napkin it’s alright DON’T CHASE HER FOR IT • The use or reference to alcohol is prohibited • The use of men is prohibited during ALL recruitment rounds and also Bid Day • These rules apply to all Greek Life recruitment events Serve the whole Greek community NOT just yourself. Strict Silence • This is period in which there will be no conversation or contact between women sorority members and PNMs. • Verbal, written, printed, or text message communication between the PNMs and sorority members, new members, or Alumnae. • This is observed from the end of the chapters last event and when she accepts her bid! – September 14th (preference round) and September 15th (Bid Day) How can you paint the rock during recruitment?! • WHICH ONE? #UAssociationMeeting @ElectronicRules • There will be NO electronic contact with a PNM during formal recruitment (Facebook, Twitter, etc.) • From August 1, 2013 to September 17, 2013 all active chapter members MUST MAKE THEIR FACEBOOK, TWITTER, FOURSQUARE, etcAVAILABLE TO ONLY THEIR FRIENDS. – You may not ask ANYONE to be your friend and you may not accept requests to be your friend. #GoGreek #UAssociationMeeting Did you know? • All sororities have to spend at or under $1,500 on recruitment… Rho Gammas • Who are the Rho Gammas from YOUR chapter? • Make sure you disaffiliate from them beginning August 16, 2013! • How should you act around a Rho Gamma? – Here is an example… #UAssociationMeeting Ethics • Actions and words of ALL active members (THAT’S YOU), alumnae, recruitment counselors, recruitment team members and Panhellenic Association executive members must demonstrate: – Courtesy – Respect – Maturity Towards Panhellenic chapters! #UAssociationMeeting Ethics • All members will be held responsible for knowing the recruitment rules and procedures as well as the National Panhellenic Unanimous Agreements during formal recruitment – Which is why we just spent 30 minutes discussing them! #UAssociationMeeting Ethics • All communication among actives, alumnae, and recruitment counselors regarding Panhellenic recruitment and or sorority membership will …. #UAssociationMeeting Will be non-competitive in spirit Will be based on personal, first hand experience. Will not consist of negative remarks or attitudes towards other chapters. Will not include gossip or rumor. Will not involve discussion of any PNMs status in the recruiting process. The shield is a protective influence for our entire membership. A lamp denotes leadership, scholarship and enlightenment. The laurel wreath signifies victory, or achievement of ideals. While the sword piercing the wreath indicates willingness to fight for ideals, symbolizing, too, penalty of obligation; also bravery, achievement and discipline. The mantling surrounding the shield is the protecting cloak that education gives us, and a protective influence of organization. Thus there in the mantle is inscribed the name of the National Panhellenic Conference. PNMs will feel more confident about the conservation if THEY do MOST of the talking! The Feel, Felt, Found Model She says, “My parents do not think that I should join a sorority this year.” Your response could be: FEEL: FELT: FOUND: “I understand how you feel. Sometimes parents do not understand what being in Greek Life really means.” “I felt the same when I went through recruitment because my parents were uneasy about me going through.” “What I found is that when I sat down and talked to my parents about what being in a sorority really intailed they were more accepting of my decision.” Act Like It’s An Interview… Conversations should: O Have clean language O Provide information O Be casual Avoid the 4 BPs: O Boys O Bars O Politics O Partying Content Sales! Use your values to identify qualifications for membership Leaves little room for personal interpretation #UAssociationMeeting #RSM Conversation What We Do Now… What We Should Do Now! Figure out why they chose their major. What do you like to What does this say about them? Ask what their major is. 50 times. do for fun? Do you watch Pretty Little Liars? I am obsessed with show! When was a time you really stepped up as a leader? What interests you in joining a sorority? Recruiting for Quality & Quantity • Purposeful, focused conversations • Demonstrate and inform what we value as a community • How has sorority changed your life? • The saying “We want quality, not quantity” gives us an excuse not to get the numbers we want. #UAssociationMeeting #RSM Behavior & Expectations Members that don’t show up to anything? Phrases like “You get our what you put in” #UAssociationMeeting Instead, “This is what we want out of our members” Share all information prior #RSM What are we saying about ourselves to the community? #UAssociationMeeting #RSM #TSM To someone not in Greek Life, all of our letters look the same. So why not work together to get rid of the bratty, nasty, shallow, party girl stereotype they see us as. I'm not saying don't have a good time, but next time instead of retweeting a #TSM, think about retweeting a #RealSororityMove these tweets show the true meaning of sorority. It may seem small, but its the small things that always make a huge difference. Closing #UAssociationMeeting #RSM
