Formed in May 2004, from a merger of the Institute
for Learning and Teaching in Higher Education
(ILTHE), the Learning and Teaching Support Network
(LTSN), and the TQEF National Co-ordination Team
(NCT)
Funded by grants from the four UK funding bodies,
subscriptions from higher education institutions, and
grant income for specific initiatives.
What is the Engineering
Subject Centre?
One of 24 subject centres forming the subject
network of the Higher Education Academy
Based at Loughborough University
Employs 10 staff (8 FTE)
Complemented by 9 Associates across the UK
Funded until July 2009
Networking
The Centre is well established in the UK engineering
community
Strong brokerage role between national bodies and
engineering in higher education
Examples:
Played a major part in the decision and review of the Engineering
Benchmark Statements from the QAA with the Engineering Council
UK and Engineering Professors’ Council
Working with the Royal Academy of Engineering on “The London
Engineering Project”
