Accelerating structure
• Total length: 1.4 m.
• 29 accelerating cells
made of deoxidized
cooper.
• Structure:

–
π/2 mode,
on-axis coupled,
standing wave,
operating at frequency
~2998 MHz.

Microwave power source
• Power source located
outside the gantry (thus
instability during gantry
rotation is eliminated).
• First accelerator equipped
with 3.1 MW magnetron:
– electron beam energy up to
15 MeV,
– photon beam energy up to
10 MeV.
• Possible use of klystron
(higher energies).

Pulse modulator
• New modulator based on
„solid state” technology.
• Higher stability of work,
shorter pulse increase time
and lower E-M disturbance
emission in comparison to
thyratron based modulators
(„PFN” type) used so far.
• Lower „beam start-up-time”
thanks to separation of RF
and electron gun systems.

Beam stability
• Measured signals are
digitalized and used for
dose rate monitoring,
total dose calculation and
dynamic correction of exit
beam position.
• Flatness and symmetry
are verified and corrected
online by two coils
located in 270o deflection
system.

Dosimetry
• Two independent
dose monitoring
system (also independent power supply for
both dosimetry
channels).
• New construction of
ionization chamber
(four sectors).

Safety
• Fulfilment of Polish and European
standards guarantees safe work of
the accelerator.
• In particular it indicates application of
protection systems ensuring, for example,
accelerator auto-shut-down in case of
instability of dose, dose rate or energy
when it exceeds acceptable range.
