Warwickshire County Council Kay Reeve What happened at Winterbourne View and what we are doing to make sure it can’t happen again Warwickshire County Council • On 31st May, a TV programme showed members of staff hitting, shouting, and hurting people with learning disabilities at Winterbourne View hospital • This is called abuse • Abuse is wrong • No-one should be abused Warwickshire County Council What actions were taken straight away. Winterbourne View Hospital closed on 24th June 2011 The Police and Safeguarding Board were asked to find out what happened and why the staff abused people Warwickshire County Council What actions were taken straight away • Some support workers went to court and some others were sacked.
