What happened at Winterbourne View and what
we are doing to make sure it can’t happen again

• On 31st May, a TV
programme showed
members of staff hitting,
shouting, and hurting
people with learning
disabilities at Winterbourne
View hospital
• This is called abuse
• Abuse is wrong
• No-one should be abused

Winterbourne View Hospital closed on 24th June
2011
The Police and Safeguarding
Board were asked to find out
what happened and why the
staff abused people

• Some support workers went to court and some others were
sacked. People went to jail because of what they had done

Health wanted to find out
what happened at

all the people and
organisations that had
something to do with the
patients at the hospital
so they asked for a
report
