CIITS - “CIITS Item Issues Form.” This document can be found on the CIITS homepage. KENTUCKY’S ASSESSMENT FUTURE The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) has developed testing systems with multiple vendors. Agreements with ACT, Inc. (EXPLORE, PLAN, the ACT and QualityCore EOCs English 10, Biology, U.S. History and Algebra 2) and NCS Pearson, Inc. (KPREP, grades 3-8) to provide Kentucky assessments are through 2017 spring testing. KDE at this time is committed to continuing our current test models. Assessment Resources spring 2013 http://education.ky.gov/AA/Pages/default.aspx http://education.ky.gov/AA/distsupp/Pages/K- PREP.aspx http://education.ky.gov/AA/distsupp/Pages/ACT.aspx PARCC : Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC), a national consortium of 22 states, is developing Common Core State Standards (CCSS) assessments in English Language Arts/literacy (ELA/literacy) and mathematics. Kentucky joined PARCC as a Participating State in the spring of 2010 and actively helped shape PARCC’s proposal for a common, next-generation assessment system. Kentucky has been one of the states that have been playing participating or advisory roles. These roles mean KDE has been a part of discussions. KDE does not have voting authority to govern the project and has not decided to administer the assessment. SMARTER-Balanced The Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC) is developing a system of assessments aligned to the CCSS in English Language Arts/literacy (ELA/literacy) and mathematics for grades 3-8 and 11. Kentucky is not currently taking an active role in SBAC. ACT Aspire™ ACT, Inc. is developing the ACT Aspire™ assessments for grades 3–10. ACT is inviting elementary, middle, junior high, and high schools in Kentucky to participate in a major field study to develop new educational measures designed to provide valuable information about schools’ and individual students’ progress toward achieving college and career readiness.
