School Holiday Practices
• Effective immediately, coaches are discouraged from having
practices on holidays and holiday weekends, such as Labor
Day, Thanksgiving, Columbus Day, etc. This certainly includes
practices that involve parents providing transportation to and
from practice. In the event that practice is necessary due to
contests scheduled immediately after the holiday in question,
those practices are to be structured as optional or open gym
formats. Players should not be penalized for their absence,
i.e. losing the ability to start or play significant time in the next
scheduled contest.

IESA Rule Change
At it’s June 2012 Board of
Director’s meeting, the IESA
adopted a new rule in regards
to participation in club or AAU
sports. Basically, the
participation requirements
are now totally set by the
individual school district.
Individual coaches already
have rules in place in regards
to attendance, etc.
Those stated rules will now
be followed with no
exceptions.
Resulting discipline based on
the type of infraction.
In all cases, school contests
supercede “club” activity
