Artistic History of China
Chinese civilization began 3000 years before the birth of
Christ and can lay claim as being the oldest continuous
culture in the world. The art of painting is recorded in
Chinese culture seven centuries before the birth of Christ. The
first Chinese painter was a woman by the name of Lei (lahEE) and the sister of emperor Shun (2255 to 2205 B.C.)
Japan owes much of its existence to China for their artistic
development and written language.
The philosophy of calligraphy in Chinese culture is to
reach oneness through meditation, which was
adapted from Indian Culture.
What is Chinese Calligraphy?
It is an Oriental art that uses Chinese characters to
communicate the spiritual world of the artist.
Chinese calligraphy is a work of art that conveys
moral integrity, character, emotions, and the joy of
beauty.
The Chinese also praise this form of Chinese art as
having the beauty of image in painting, the beauty
of dynamism in dance, martial arts, and the beauty
of rhythm in music.
