NIAS in Brief
 Extablished in 1952 under Ministry of Agriculture and Rural
Development.
NIAS’s mandated tasks :
- Planning and designing national research programs (both
short term and long term) in Animal Science.
- Implementation and management of approved national
research programs.
- Undertaking studies on animal breeding and genetics to
improve animal performance.
- Undertaking studies on animal feed, nutrition and related
issues including feed analysis, nutrient requirements for
different species of animals and feeding regimes.

 Undertaking studies on animal housing, manure managements
and economic analysis.
 Making recommendations on animal production policy for the
Government.
 Efficient utilization and management of human resources and
natural resources in animal production
 Organizing training courses for Farmers, technicians,
graduates, and organizing higher education courses (PhD)
 - Designing and organizing and implementing research and
development collaboration with internal and external partners
within the country and internationally.
NIAS organization and structure
 - NIAS contains: 3 main sections
1. Functioning departments: 4, located in the headquarter
2. Research department: 8 including a Laboratory for
biotechnology, located in the headquarter
3. Research stations and/or centers: 10 located in whole Vietnam
from the North to the South.
- Total staff: around 1300 people, of which PhD holders: 50 and
Master holder and Graduated: 450

1. Nuritive Requirements of Animals: Dairy cattle, water fowls:
Ducks and Muscovy duck. (Thailand and Japan at Khonkhaen
University: MEm for local Thai cattle, local buffalo, Brahman
around 52, 71 and 80 % MEm for Japanese black cattle. MEm of
HF in Thailand = 84 % MEm for HF (AFRC, 1999)
2. ME and Protein value of feeds commonly used in animal
rations: Cattle, Pig and Poultry (see Dr. Thong’s presentation)
3. Introduction and evaluation of new feed evaluation systems
under Vietnam condition: such as French system for cattle
