For no-one could perform the miraculous signs you are doing if God were not with him.’” John 3:2 Nicodemus has missed the point – Jesus is not just a teacher, he’s God himself! Conversations with God: Nicodemus Nicodemus comes with own agenda But Jesus challenges it! “I tell you the truth, no-one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again.” John 3:3 “How can a man be born again when he is old?… surely he cannot enter a second time into his mother’s womb to be born?” John 3:4 Conversations with God: Nicodemus Nicodemus struggled to understand “I tell you the truth, no-one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit…” John 3:5 Conversations with God: Nicodemus Water John the Baptist baptised with water John’s baptism signified repentance! Conversations with God: Nicodemus Spirit Happens after true repentance You are given the gift of the Holy Spirit “[God] set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.” 2 Corinthians 1:22 The water is repentance – the spirit is new life – and that’s being born again!
