Auditing in Asia Since 2009

At the end of 2009, INTOSAI
WGEA made an overall
assessment :
The Asia region has witnessed a
distinct improvement in the capacity
to carry out environmental audit.
1. most SAIs now have the mandate
to conduct environmental audit

 Governments,State-owned enterprises or
companies---most SAIs enjoy full access
 Semi-governmental organizations---47%
SAIs enjoy full access; 44% have partial
access
 Private sector enterprises---a few SAIs have

conducted by SAIs has increased.
 During the period of 2009-2011, the number of
environmental audits in 60% of the responded
SAIs increased in comparison to the previous
period (2006-2008).

the prevention and control of
pollution of water bodies
through industrial and
agricultural sources,
wastewater treatment, etc.)

6. SAIs still face some challenges
in the field of environmental audit
Lack of knowledge, insufficiency of
environmental criterion and standards, and
lack of systems on monitoring and reporting.
 Unbalanced development of cooperative
environmental audit in Asia
II. The Work of the Secretariat
in Recent Years
• Issue the 2011-2013 Work Plan of ASOSAI WGEA
• In February 2011, the Secretariat of ASOSAI WGEA
conducted the 3rd survey on environmental auditing.
 The survey aimed at gaining understanding about awareness
and practices of cooperative environmental audit and collecting
ideas about future cooperative audit plans.
 By May 2011, responses from 27 SAIs have been received.

materials, cases and
techniquest.
