7/17/2015
To conduct research for improving
rehab patient care by applying :
Labanotation
Computer modeling/animation
techniques
Wireless sensor tracking systems for
specifying and recording rehab
exercises.






Task 1: Identify and record key rehab
exercises
Task 2: Derive the equivalent Labanotation
and LMA for the key rehab exercises
Task 3: Examine LabanDancer Software
Task 4: Design rehab exercise
specification/animation tool
Task 5: WSN for recording rehab exercises

What is Laban ?


Captures dance movement on the page and
interprets it thru symbols so that it can be
shared
By simply reading a symbol on a staff, one
immediately knows:
1.
2.
3.
4.
7/17/2015
The direction of the movement.
The part of the body doing the movement
The level of the movement
The length of the time it takes to do the
movement.

Symbols

The shape of the symbol tells you the
direction of the movement.

Symbols




A symblo can be used to show a step
or a gesture
A step is a movement that takes
weight
A gesture is a movement that dosent
take weight.
Eg. A forward symbol can either
represent a forward step or a gesture

Symbol Placement

Placement of the symbol tells us which
part of the body is doing the
movement

Symbol Shading



Shading of the symbol tell you the level at
which movement takes place.
Steps- low level is with a bent leg, middle
level is with a straight leg, and high level is
up on the toes.
Gestures - middle level is with the limb
parallel to the floor. The hand or the foot is
on the same level as the shoulder or hip.
Low level is below this, high level above.

How to read ?

Starting position - three beats to the
measure, a quarter note getting one
beat.
Start with the feet together,
knees straight. The arms are out
to the sides, slanted down at a 45
degree angle
