 Canadian politician  Founder of Province of Manitoba  Political and spiritual leader of Métis people  Referred to as “Father of Manitoba”  Elected three times at the Canadian House of Commons, but never assumed his seat  Remained in exile for a while because of growing belief that he was the chosen leader and prophet of Métis  Was hung till death after trial on November 16, 1885

 By revising history we are realizing that Louis Riel was in fact innocent of treason  Louis Riel was pushed to rebel against government because of racism and discrimination against Métis

     CPR was a dream project for Canada’s prime minister John A Macdonald, but went bankrupt halfway through the project People weren’t willing to pay for the CPR because it was looked at as a waste of money When the Northwest rebellion broke out in 1885, led by Louis Riel it provided the perfect opportunity for to complete the railway, it meant that troops needed to be transported quickly, preferably by railway This gained attention from public and was viewed as a great investment CPR was key element to stopping the rebellion, construction of CPR continued after rebellion

 Undeniably Louis Riel was a national hero, and he still is today  Result of Riel’s sacrifices are that Métis are recognized and are equal to the Canadian society  Canada has the province Manitoba because of Riel  CPR still runs today and Canada is recognized because of it  École Panorama Ridge Secondary is a bilingual school because of Louis Riel
