Gospel and a Useful Tool in Ministry

God models meeting needs
The Gospels are full of stories about Jesus
meeting the perceived needs of the people
around him such as healing the
sick and opening the eyes of the
blind. On his three-year journey
to the Cross he responded to
many needs that people were
concerned about.

Doing the gospel
Meeting perceived needs means to:
engage with,
 listen to,
 and work with

the person you are
ministering to, to
meet their felt needs.
Our good deeds, prompted by love,
are the Gospel message, without words.

Its importance
Meeting perceived
needs can be an
entry point to help
the person move
in his own journey
toward faith in
Christ.
Meeting perceived
needs can build
hope in your
friend, hope that
her basic needs
can also be met.

Its importance
Meeting perceived needs is incarnational
ministry – it’s incorporating the presence of
Jesus Christ into the person’s world.
 The helping you do is
not irrelevant, but hitting
the bull’s-eye of the
person’s concern.

How do you do it?
Meeting perceived needs follows closely on the
heels of relevant communication. We find it is very
important to:
 Listen carefully.
 Listen to their choice.
 Choose a need that
can actually be met.
 Make room for the
person to fully participate.
