Used to measure wind speed.
HOW?

Add string to a nail and hang a light ball at the end of the string

On a semi-circular board mark the wind speeds

Keep the device parallel to the wind and note the wind speeds

HOW?


Used to measure rainfall
Place the collecting jar in the rain. At the end of the day, we pour the water
form the collecting jar into the measuring jar to find out the rainfall.

The highest amount of rainfall ever was in Cheerapunji, India at 72 inches in 1
day
Weather Vane

WHAT?


HOW?


Used to measure wind direction
Take the vane outside where it is windy. Find out the direction of the wind.
Based on the direction of the arrow, we can record the direction of the wind.


If the wind is swirly, the wane can go round and round!
Thermometer

WHAT?


HOW?


Used to measure temperature
Keep the thermometer in the location you want to measure the hotness or
coldness. When it hot the rubbing alcohol rises up; and when it is cold the
rubbing alcohol drops down.


In Antarctica the temperature can go into the negative!
Hygrometer

WHAT?


HOW?


Used to measure humidity
The hair strand lengthens up or curls up depending on the humidity in the air.
Based on the markings on the ruler, we can determine the humidity

Did you know why your hair frizzes up? It is because of humidity
Barometer

WHAT?

HOW?


Used to measure the air pressure
When the air pushes down on the balloon, the straw tilts up. The marking on the
board will indicate the pressure.

The hotter it is, the lesser the air pressure
