The skin cells that line the pore (keratinocytes) are continuously shed, just like the cells of the epidermis at the top of the skin. If the keratinocytes are not continuously shed from the lining of the pore, they can build up and the pores may appear larger. As we age, the cell renewal process slows, causing a buildup of dead cells around the pore. As a result, pores tend to appear larger.
