Individual Advocacy

Individual Advocacy helps one person change something that is effecting them. For example, benefits, reasonable accommodation at work, etc.

Systems Advocacy

Systems Advocacy changes an entire system or structure from the way it currently works. For example, new housing construction, homeless shelters, paratransit services, voting machines, polling places, medical facilities, schools, etc.

Let’s discuss some examples…

 Statewide Disability Rights & Membership Organization that services 22 of California’s Independent Living Centers  3 Programs – DOnetwork, AT Network & YO! Disabled & Proud

 Consumer Controlled ILCs are run by, for and about people with disabilities  Mandated to have at least 51% disabled board and staff members  Focused on serving the diverse needs of the disability community
