Contribution Reward Scheme 2010 Key messages

What is it?

 A scheme that allows staff to apply for awards of additional payment for their contribution to the College    Contribution looks at ‘what’ you do as well as ‘how’ you do it The focus is on the individual and not the job – it is separate from re-grading or promotion Applications can be made either through self-nomination or by managers.

Awards can be made in one of three ways

 An increment into or within the contribution zone  An accelerated increment within the automatic part of the grade    A one-off bonus payment Awards will be made based on individual merit, not on a quota or fund size Teams can also apply

When is it happening?

 The launch date for 2009 is 7 th  May 2010 Heads will set internal deadlines for submission of applications (must give reasonable time and support for completion of applications)    Sectoral meetings need to be held by 6 th November at the very latest Pay changes will be made in December 2010 Comprehensive guidance and support are available on the HR website

Who is eligible?

 All staff (including academic and research staff) who are;  on the 7-grade structure (plus Clinical Researchers and Clinical Lecturers)  with at least one year’s continuous service by 31 st July 2010.

What is the criteria?

 Demonstration of going ‘over and above’ the normal expectations of the role. This would be in line with College values and supported by evidence  Guidance notes will provide examples but as each role will contribute in its own way, the examples will not be prescriptive

How will decisions be made?

 Applications will be made by individuals/teams or via nomination by the Head  Decisions will be made at sectoral level. For staff in academic departments, Heads will together meet with the sectoral vice-principal to make final decisions on applications (for the School of Medicine and Dentistry, this will be Directors of Institutes and the Warden). For staff in central services, Heads will meet with the Chief Administrative Officer to make final decisions on applications.
