What Can I Do?
Be an ENERGY star!
•
•
Set thermostats at reasonable
temperatures for each season
and adjust when leaving a room.
•
Use a clothesline – dryers are
energy hogs and sun-dried
clothes smell great!
•
Replace incandescent bulbs
with more efficient compact
fluorescent lamps (CFLs).
•
Purchase Energy Star® rated
appliances, electronics,
computers
(UofL Green Purchasing Policy).
Set computers to “sleep” when idle
(under Control Panel > Power Options)
•
Turn off lights and equipment
when you leave the room.
•
Unplug chargers and equipment
when not in use (or switch off
power strips).

What Can I Do?
Reduce SOLID WASTE!
Minimize unnecessary consumption:

Cut paper use in half by duplexing – printing or
copying on both sides.

Don’t print e-mails or other documents you
won’t really need on paper.

Avoid excess packaging.



Use reusable filters instead of disposables in
furnace, coffeemaker, etc.

Switch to rechargeable batteries rather than
toxic disposables.

Donate unwanted items to UofL Surplus,
charities, thrift stores, or non-profit
organizations; or have a yard sale!

Buy pre-owned items whenever possible or
new items with post-consumer recycled
content.

Find local green products & services:
Bring your own bags and buy in bulk.
Drink tap water

Bring reusable shopping bags.

At mealtimes, use reusable items like
mugs, cups, utensils, cloth napkins & towels
rather than disposables.
