ASL 101: Personnel Units
Counters
In ASL, there are:
• Personnel Units (1/2” counters)
These are Leaders, Heroes, Squads, HS and Crews.
• Squad Weapons (1/2” counters)
These are MGs, ATRs, MTRs, Bazookas, etc.
•Guns and Vehicles/AFVs (5/8” counters – later!)
• We looked at some of the Information counters last time.

Counters
There are two types of Personnel counters in ASL games:
• Single Man Counters (SMC)
These are Leaders and Heroes
• Multi-Man Counters (MMC)
These are Squads, Half-Squads and Crews.

Notes on Personnel Units
Special Rules for Squads:
•
4 movement factors (MF) for normal movement.
•
•
They can double time for 1 or 2 additional MF.
Squads may carry 3 portage points of SWs.
Anything greater reduces their MFs.
•
Squads may fire their inherent FP and a SW, or
they may fire two SWs and forfeit their FP.

Special Rules for Half Squads (HS):
•
4 movement factors (MF) for normal movement.
•
They can double time for 1 or 2 additional MF.
•
They may fire their inherent FP, or a SW.
•
HS may also carry 3 PPs.
These same rules apply to crews as well.

And the range?
Same order as
other MMCs:

Crews fail a Morale
Check and break the
same as other personnel
units.

broken morale
means the unit may
self rally.

Notes on Personnel Units
Special Rules for Crews:
In addition to the HS rules, crews are also:
•
highly trained, so they are considered elite units.
•
have self rally capacity.
•
are immune to Heat of Battle (HOB) and ELR.

fails a Morale Check they
are flipped over like a
squad. They are broken.

Notes on Personnel Units
Special Rules for Leaders:
•
Leaders affect other units in their same
location. (Prevents cowering, gives MF bonus)
•
Leaders use their leadership # as a DRM to
influence other personnel units in their
location.
Examples: Leaders modify fire attacks, morale
checks, task checks, rally attempts, and more!

Heroes
ASL 101: Personnel Units
Personnel Units - SMC
Heroes are special types of
SMCs.
SMC Hero
Morale
Unlike Leaders, they have:
Range
• inherent firepower
Firepower
• -1 leadership to modify fire
• they can modify their own fire!
ASL 101: Personnel Units
Personnel Units - SMC
Another special point for
heroes – they do NOT break!
Heroes that fail an MC are
wounded!
If they live, they have reduced
abilities.
Wounded Hero
Reduced MFs
Reduced Morale
Reduced Range
ASL 101: Personnel Units
Notes on Personnel Units
Special Rules for Heroes:
•
Heroes use their -1 DRM to affect the fire
attacks of other units in the same fire group.
• Heroes are NOT Leaders! They do NOT
prevent cowering, nor do they give MF
bonuses.
•
When heroes fail a morale check, they
Casualty Reduce (CR) meaning they are
wounded. (And might die!)
