Document Review: Key Questions
• Does the institution exist?
• What is the status of the institution?
• Does it offer the program that is indicated on the
document?
• Did the candidate complete the prerequisites for
admission into the program that led to the
credential in question?
• Is the educational history logical with respect to
the country in question?

Receiving Documents
Directly from Institutions
• Documents must be sent directly to WES, or its
partners (licensing bodies and academic
institutions), by the institution for credentials from
countries where this is common practice
• At present this is required for 162 countries (from Anguilla to
Zimbabwe)
• Documents from countries where it is not common
practice to send directly, are submitted for
verification to the institution that issued them
• Requests are sent via mail, fax and e-mail
• E-Mail and Fax responses are accepted only in instances where it
is known common practice
