The Scouting Program
Scouting is a fun and educational experience with values!!!

The Purpose of School Night for Scouting
• To enroll prospective Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts into existing packs and troops respectively • To enlist new parent participation in the Scouting program • To organize new units to adequately serve all communities
School Night for Scouting
This form of recruitment can net between 15-25 new Scouts per pack in a single night!!!

School Night for Scouting Recruitment Plan---What?
• Set up a recruitment night (School Night) in
every
elementary school • Invite all prospective youth and families to attend and share information about Scouting and specific packs’ recruiting and programs
Encourage all NEW youth to join Scouting in one evening!!!
They all fill out an application and pay registration fees that same night!!!
School Night for Scouting Recruitment Plan---Who?
Pack Leaders (Pack School Night Coordinator):
• Help contact all your local schools to set up all School Night/s • Promote your School Night/s in all your schools and communities • Conduct all your School Night/s and promote your pack
District Executive / Director:
• Schedule and conduct all Boy Talks prior to all School Nights to help promote • Deliver fliers to all schools to help promote all School Nights • Keep everything on track for district / pack success
District Volunteers / Commissioners:
• Collect all new applications and fees after all School Nights • Help conduct all School Nights • Conduct all Parent Orientation Meetings
School Night for Scouting Timeline
• Promote all your School Night for Scouting/s • Conduct all your School Night for Scouting/s • Follow up steps – Turn in all your applications and registration fees to the district executive / director immediately – Hold your Parent Orientation Meeting (within 2 weeks of your School Night/s) – Contact all your families that attended School Night/s but did not register and invite them to join

Statistics show that it takes 6-7 times to hear or see new information before it really sinks in!!!

School Night for Scouting Promotion
• Order all your customized recruitment fliers and stickers from the Heart of Ohio Council, BSA by contacting the district executive / director
Packs must provide:
– Contact person name, phone, e-mail address – Date, time, location, address, room of School Nights – Number of recruitment fliers needed

The goal of Boy Talks is to visit all schools a few days prior to all School Night/s and to
excite
the boys about the upcoming recruitment rallies!!!

School Night for Scouting Promotion
• Set up recruitment booths at all your local school open houses • Put up recruitment yard signs at all your local schools • Send recruitment e-mails to all your friends / contacts • Encourage all your Cub Scouts to invite friends to join • Advertise on all your local school marquees • Leave recruitment fliers at all your local libraries • Hang recruitment posters at all your local schools • Be creative!!!

Before your recruitment night/s
– Confirm you have all needed recruitment supplies • Contact your commissioner or district executive / director if more recruitment supplies are needed – Secure participation from all your pack volunteers – Ensure your pack leadership has created a pack calendar / fact sheet – Contact all your local Boy Scout troops for help – Review your agenda and talking points

– Arrive early – Set up your room – Set up your welcome table with all recruitment supplies – Organize all your recruitment supplies – Review expectations with all your pack volunteers – Distribute pack calendars / fact sheets to all your new families – Start and end your program on time!!!

Conducting School Night for Scouting
• Sign in all guests • Flag ceremony and pledge of allegiance (if able) • Welcome and introductions • What is Cub Scouting?
• Registration – Fill out all applications – Pay all fees • Invite all adults to Parent Orientation Meeting • Questions • Closing
Approximate time is less than 45 minutes
School Night for Scouting Follow Up Parent Orientation Meeting
• Conducted within two weeks of your School Night • All your current and new pack parents should attend • Youth should
not
attend or should be occupied without needing parent help (ask your local troop for help) • Youth Protection Training is also provided
Recruit the right person for the right volunteer position!!!
School Night for Scouting Follow Up Parent Orientation Meeting
• All current leaders / new leaders (and parents) should be in attendance and prepared to discuss what they do in your pack • Explain what it means to be a Cub Scout parent and how the Cub Scout program works • Discuss all your leadership positions and provide resources for each position • Talk about all volunteer needs of your pack • Youth Protection Training is also provided
