How much is our future worth to you?
Investing in the future, pays dividends now!
Before we begin, please take a moment to review the pledge
cards now being handed out. We would like to collect these
cards at the end of the presentation.
DID YOU KNOW . . .
A recent study by Louis Harris and Associates found
that parents agree Scouting helped their child:
• Learn moral values, 95%
• Develop new skills, 96%
• Become involved in community service, 90%
• To respect others, 95%
It is the mission of the Boy Scouts of America to prepare young
people to make ethical choices throughout their life, and to help them
achieve their full potential. We provide character education for the
next generation of Los Angeles Area Leaders.
Your Los Angeles Area Council provides support for:
•
•
•
Over 17,000 youth members in packs, troops, and crews
38,000 youth in the Learning for Life program last year
7,000 Adult Members. 968 Units.
In 2009:
•
•
Our Scouts gave over 200,000 hours of community service.
248 boys achieved the rank of Eagle Scout.
DID YOU KNOW . . .
When a Scout registers, none of the fees paid support the council, instead they are
devoted to national dues, accident insurance and a Boy’s Life subscription. Yet it costs
the Los Angeles Area Council approximately $250 a year to provide the crucial support
services for just one Scout. Among the Council’s services are:
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
Providing Unit Accident and Liability Insurance Coverage
Answering phone calls for information, making reservations camping programs
Handling all registrations and Boy’s Life Subscriptions
Maintaining the Los Angeles Council web site
Conducting formal and informal training courses
Recording advancement
Providing necessary forms, literature and supplies
Supporting district/council events
Without the help of our Friends of Scouting Campaign, vital parts of the Scouting
experience would have to be cut back or eliminated.
