Old New Year
13-14 of January

The first holiday of the year is New Year's Day. People see the
new year in at midnight on the 31st of December. They greet
the new year with champagne and listen to the Kremlin
chimes beating at 12 o'clock.

There are lots of New Year
traditions in Russia. In every
home there is a New Year tree
glittering with coloured lights
and decorations.

But the main symbol of
this day is Ded Moroz
("Grandfather Frost"). It
is a large, bearded
and grandfatherly
man resembling Santa
Claus. Instead of elves
to help him, Ded
Moroz has his granddaughter
Snegurochka
("Snowy"), with whom
he lives somewhere in
the northern forest.

Young children are told
that Ded Moroz will bring
them presents if they are
good. They write a letter
to him. And they write
what they would like to
receive on the New Year.
A renewed holiday in our country is
Christmas. It is celebrated on the 7th of
January. It's a religious holiday and a lot of
people go to church services on that day


Christmas is celebrated in Russia
as a religious holiday. In Russia the
Christmas holiday has been
celebrated since the X century,
when Christianity was spread on
the Russian lands . We live in the
XXI century,and today the
celebration of Christmas is
different from that how it was
marked before.

Russian Christmas now is a
family holiday. We can
celebrate Christmas with
friends, colleagues. We
often find ourselves
surrounded by people everywhere they involve
us in the festive whirlwind.
But it is better to meet
Christmas with the family.

In addition, if you're a person not very
religious - Christmas may still be for you a
wonderful, funny and memorable holiday.
In the end, a meeting with the beloved
people is always a feast. In this sense
Christmas is not just a meal in a narrow
family circle.
The Old New Year is one of the most
favorite holidays of many Russians. It is a
continuation of the New Year, an extra
holiday, the result of interchange of the era.



Russians celebrate two
new years: the Old and
the New ones. The Old
New Year is celebrated
after the New Year. It is
celebrated at night on
the 13 - 14th of January.
Many people can
celebrate the New Year
once again.


This holiday is after the
Christmas Advent. It is
a very charming and
quiet holiday. We see
old year off and greet
the new one at the
same time. All bad
and unpleasant
moments remain in the
past, but good and
enjoyable things stay
in the new year.
But people go to work
and children go to
school on this day,
although it is a holiday.

It is accompanied by holding ceremonies.
For example: cooking porridge, sowing
seeds and cooking dumplings with little
surprises. Many people tell fortunes at this
time.

The Old New Year is celebrated in the way like the
New Year .

But not only Russians like this holiday. It is celebrated in
Serbia, Montenegro and Switzerland.

We like this holiday because it is a continuation of a
real, mysterious and the best New Year’s fairytale.
