Search Returns a data.zip file Download data file Onward use of data: considerations Download data file •E.g. ArcGIS or MapInfo, CAD or Image software • Your data will NOT look as it does in Digimap Process the data Import data to software Analyse data / Create map 1. Unzip the Digimap data file 2. Convert the data to an appropriate format if necessary – consider formats and conversion options Meeting content • • • • • Considerations in use of data Unzip data Data formats Data conversion Using data in ArcMap: adding data, amending symbology (Desktop sharing) • Resources • Q&A Unzip Digimap data.zip files Data download: 1. Otherwise your GIS software cannot locate the TIFF geographically. Vector data formats • • • • • DXF (Drawing Exchange Format) NTF (National Transfer Format) GML (Geography Mark-up Language) SHP (ArcView Shapefile) MIF/MID (MapInfo export format) • Not every product is available in every format • Some data formats may be incompatible with software e.g. NTF, GML, DXF Meeting content • • • • • Considerations in use of data Unzip data Data formats Data conversion Using data in ArcMap: adding data, amending symbology (Desktop sharing) • Resources • Q&A ArcGIS • Shape files do not require any conversion prior to use in ArcGIS. • Remember to keep all files together - SHP, PRJ, DBF, SHX: ArcGIS – common conversion requirements Digimap format Required format ArcGIS version Tool NTF MDB 9.2 or later Productivity Suite NTF MDB 9.1 or earlier Map Manager GML MDB 9.2 or later Productivity Suite GML MDB 9.1 or earlier Map Manager GML SHP All InterpOse ArcGIS conversion tools • Available through CHEST: – ESRI Productivity Suite (ArcGIS V9.2 or later) – this must be requested from CHEST separately, via your institutional CHEST representative. – Map Manager (ArcGIS V9.1 or earlier) • InterpOse Digimap edition - free download for GML data: − http://www.dottedeyes.co.uk/spatial_data_loading/inter pose/digimap.php MapInfo – common conversion requirements Digimap format Required format MapInfo version Tool NTF .MIF/.MID Any NTF2MIF convertor GML n/a 8.5 or later No conversion required GML .MIF/.MID 8.0 or earlier OSM2MIF convertor GML .TAB any InterpOse MapInfo conversion tools • NTF2MIF - free download for NTF data • OSM2MIF - free download for GML data • Both available from: http://www.bodley.ox.ac.uk/users/nnj/translat.htm • InterpOse Digimap edition - free download for GML data: http://www.dottedeyes.co.uk/spatial_data_loading/interp ose/digimap.php CAD conversion tools • InterpOse Digimap edition - Converts GML to DXF format: – http://www.dottedeyes.co.uk/spatial_data_loading/inter pose/digimap.php Meeting content • • • • • Considerations in use of data Unzip data Data formats Data conversion Using data in ArcMap: adding data, amending symbology (Desktop sharing) • Resources • Q&A Meeting content • • • • • Considerations in use of data Unzip data Data formats Data conversion Using data in ArcMap: adding data, amending symbology (Desktop sharing) • Resources • Q&A Resources EDINA: • Help pages – Using data with GIS • Training guides: http://edina.ac.uk/digimap/support/training/ Resources EDINA Symbology files: • OS data: – Strategi, Land-form Panorama, Meridian, Land-Line – in Help under Using data with ArcGIS 9.x – OS MasterMap – will be added to Help shortly • Geology Digimap – bundled with data download file. 1 avl file for each Shape file. • Marine Digimap – download Fonts files and Style file from Marine Digimap Help pages and copy into relevant folders in C:/Program Files.
