What is a Lobbyist?
• Why do they have power?
Lobbyists
Somebody (usually employed by a
business or interest group) that seeks to
persuade legislators. Today, it is common
for industry lobbyists to have industry
expertise. Lobbyists often advise
legislators or even help to write legislation.
What is a PAC?
Political Action Committee
Formed (by a business or interest
group) to raise money to influence
elections
Interest Groups and Cartoons
• Go around the room, for five minutes just
look over the cartoons.
• Then Choose ten and explain the
meaning.
• Decide whether this portrays a positive
image or negative image of Interest
Groups and Why.
