– Led by Zhu Yuanzhang (Jooh yoo-ahn-jahng)

• Took name Hong Wu when he became emperor
– Means brilliant
– Would rule for 300 years
Move Capital to Nanjing
– to monitor Mongols(was in Tatu/Beijing)
– Later moved back to Cambaluc (renamed Beijing)
• Completely rebuilt

Rule Modification
– No one exempt from punishments
• CSE had become corrupt (people pay others to take exams)
• “a gentleman could be ordered to die but should never be humiliated”

– However, there were problems in north because of invaders
– Government paid people to move to northern regions
