OBJECTIVES
I can determine the central idea of an
informational text.
I can find a common central idea and
theme between an informational text and
a literary text.
MAIN OR CENTRAL IDEA
Central idea- the central point that the author wants the reader to
know.
The main/central idea always can be put into a sentence. It will
never be just one word.
Example: In an article about horses in Kentucky, the Main idea
might be “Kentucky is a great place to raise horses.”

INFORMATIONAL ARTICLE
As we read aloud, look for the central idea in
the text.
What is the author trying to tell us about the
topic?
GROUP CER

know? Provide evidence and reasoning to support
your claim.

everyone’s name)
