Potential Energy
Potential Energy
All stored energy is potential energy. An
object gains potential energy if it is
squeezed or stretched. For example, a
blown up balloon and a jack-in-the-box have
potential energy.
A raised object has gravitational energy
which belongs to potential energy.
Example 1 - Spring
A stretched spring has stored
energy. This energy is called potential
energy.
Example 2 - Balloon
Blow up a balloon. We use energy to
blow up the balloon. This stored
energy is called potential energy.
Example 3 - Load
The kinetic energy change to
potential energy when the load on the
floor moves up.
Moving up

Example 4 - Diving
Driving is a kind of change of
potential energy.
Example 5 - Hydro-electric
power scheme
In the hydro-electric power
scheme, the potential energy of the
water change to kinetic energy of the
turbine.
