Zack’s mom played volleyball in High school and Zack’s father played basketball, football, and was a
boxer, so as a child he was always involved in sports. As a youngster Zack played American football,
basketball, baseball and ran track. During his childhood he was always a competitor, and one of the
standout athletes of his age. What people don’t realize is that American football was Zack’s first love, but
before going to High school he wanted to focus on one sport so he chose basketball. Since day 1 Zack
told everyone he would be a professional basketball player and he is living his dream till this day.
High school
In High school averaged 19 points per game, 6 rebounds and 6 assists at Killeen Ellison High school,
was named district co MVP with his teammate Lorenzo Williams, first team all district, first team all
region, and second team all state. As a senior, a McDonald’s all American nominee, earned three player
of the year awards, Alton Ballard, central texas, and Texas top 25. Led the Eagles to a 35-2 record, that
year before losing in the quarter finals of the state championship.
Wright studied in Little Rock at the University of Arkansas and played for the university team Trojans in
the NCAA Division I. Although his performance was great Wright would transfer to the University of
Central Missouri in Warrensburg. He went on and played for the Mules in the NCAA Division II. With the
Mules, he reached for the first time the national Final Four tournament in the Division II, where the semifinal against defending champion Warriors of Winona State University eliminated them. Wright was
tabbed d2 player of the month in November, 3-time tournament MVP. 1st team all-region. Maia
conference champs, and final four first team, during the summer he was d2 MVP of the top 50 camp.
Although he finished his college career in the Division II, Wright tried in 2007 as a professional and
signed in Germany Pro B.
Starting the professional career
After studying in his native country he took off to play professional basketball in 2007 in the third-class
Pro B in Germany for the Spot Up Media Baskets Braunschweig. After conquering this division and
becoming player of the year in 2008 he moved to the French League LNB Pro A, where he would
establish himself in the French basketball league, taking his team Chalon Sur Saone to the playoffs and
becoming an All-Star. He had a great first year leading the french championships in steals and assist.
For the season 2009-10 he moved to league rivals and French champions after MSB Le Mans. In preseason they lost the euroleague qualifier against the German representative Alba Berlin. After the loss
he then led MSB to a 19-1 record before christmas break and took them to the eurocup quarter finals
where they would again lose to Alba Berlin. Wright would then face difficulties on the team with the
coach, and wouldn’t play a lot of minutes, until his former teammate Antione Diot was injured forcing the
coach to play Wright again. Wright would then face adversity and take his team to the championship
game against Cholet Basket. Losing to the stronger team, after Wright would sign to Limoges Basket a
historical team in France.
For the season 2010-11 Wright joined the CSP Élite from Limoges , a historical team with a winning
past. But for wright this year was a nightmare for a basketball player, with the firing of the coach and
several players, wright would encounter a season full of many obstacles and challenges . Fighting every
game to maintain in the league was nearly impossible and that year they would only win a total of 8 or 9
games. The only bright side of this year was winning the dunk contest and the memory of some of the
greatest fans!!!!
For the 2011-12 season Wright joined the Cretan Up AGOR in Greece. With a newly started family
bringing in his newborn son Zacchai right, zack would then have more to just play for then himself.
Wright would have his best year as a professional athlete, leading his team to third place in the Greek
League and was selected MVP of the week several times, led the league in steals which led him to be
defensive player of the year, and second team all Greek league, along with 1st team All-Imports. His
hard work wouldn’t go unnoticed, in March Wright would leave Greece and head to Croatia where he
would join historical team KK Cibona. He would help them to win the Croatian championship and earn
player of the year award also.
With this great year he had also led him to get a Bosnian passport where he would lead his team to
qualify for 2013 Eurobasket. He led the team in assists during that summer.
Wright landed for the 2012-13 season at the Russian club Spartak from Saint Petersburg, where he
drove his team to the quarterfinals of the eurocup and 4th place in the very tough VTB league where
he was voted MVP of the Month January 2013, VTB-UL.
