WHAT IS THE CO-TAUGHT MODEL?
SAIC (Specialized Academic Instruction CoTaught) Model
Collaborative, co-taught model in which special
needs students are mainstreamed with typical
peers
Students are taught their grade level curriculum
Third grade students are taught third grade
curriculum
Fourth grade students are taught fourth grade
curriculum
Accommodations provided based on individual need
STRUCTURE OF OUR PROGRAM
Students split into two heterogeneous groups
(yellow group and green group)
Mirror teaching
Allows for smaller group instruction
Varying levels of support provided within each
group
Switch groups every two weeks to ensure that
both teachers work with all students
BENEFITS OF A CO-TAUGHT MODEL
Smaller class size
32 students total
When split into yellow and green groups, 1:12 ratio at the
most when including instructional aides
Ability to provide more individualized
instruction and attention for students

Students see firsthand that everyone has their
