WHAT IS THE CO-TAUGHT MODEL?
SAIC (Specialized Academic Instruction CoTaught) Model
 Collaborative, co-taught model in which special
needs students are mainstreamed with typical
peers
 Students are taught their grade level curriculum

Third grade students are taught third grade
curriculum
 Fourth grade students are taught fourth grade
curriculum
 Accommodations provided based on individual need

STRUCTURE OF OUR PROGRAM

Students split into two heterogeneous groups
(yellow group and green group)
Mirror teaching
 Allows for smaller group instruction

Varying levels of support provided within each
group
 Switch groups every two weeks to ensure that
both teachers work with all students

BENEFITS OF A CO-TAUGHT MODEL

Smaller class size
32 students total
 When split into yellow and green groups, 1:12 ratio at the
most when including instructional aides



