The following strategies used for Literacy
and Numeracy include:

More Strategies in Literacy
• Alpha to Omega graded readers are a valuable

resource and are used both in the class room
and in one to one time.
Cursive Script handwriting is taught in the class
to help improve the visual presentation of work
and to improve spelling.
Stories of interest are read to learners to help
foster a joy of reading.
Teaching Strategies for
Numeracy
• Numeracy for weak students includes, small group
sessions, extra support is given on a one to one basis by
a voluntary adult education tutor.
Teaching methodologies include:
– variety of teaching materials, posters, worksheets, tutorials,
whiteboard and tutor texts.
• FETAC level 3 Mathematics is used with all groups
• FETAC level four introduction after FETAC 3 (awaiting
development of standardised textbooks)
