beginnings
(1938 ~ 1969)
Byung-Chull Lee started a business in
Taegu
SAMSUNG means literally "three stars" in
Korean
In 1948 Samsung has its own flour mills
and confectionery machines
Samsung’s
industrial era
(1970 ~1979)
Investment in the heavy, chemical, and
petrochemical industries.
"Five-Year Management Plan” targeted these
industries.
Many new companies were created including
SAMSUNG Heavy Industries Company in 1974.
A major manufacturer of semiconductors and
electronic technologies in the domestic market.
The company began to export its products for
the first time
Entering the
global technology
marketplace
(1980 ~ 1989)
In 1978, after successful development of a 64K DRAM
(Dynamic Random Access Memory) SAMSUNG became
a world leader in semiconductor products.
In 1987 Kun-Hee Lee succeeded his father as the new
Chairman.
The new Chairman announced the "Second Foundation"
of the company, directing SAMSUNG's growth towards
becoming a world-class 21st century corporation.
