Site information

  Geotechnical Engineering Analysis  Suitability for development Site Survey  Documentation of site conditions

Project Goals

   Provide facilities meeting needs of the community for future generations.

Provide equity in the District. Safe and Secure Learning Environments for Teachers and Students.

Renovation Study

       OSFC Recommendation; Replace Community request – study renovation vs. replacement.

Apply Program of Requirements (POR) to current facilities to achieve project goals.

Establish reconfigurations/ additions required.

Review physical building and renovations necessary.

Refine renovation/addition construction cost.

Identify issues to consider in a renovation/addition project.

Renovation Study – Physical Structure

         Walls, roofs and windows Mechanical Systems Electrical Systems Interior Finishes Technology Systems Fire alarm, sprinkler system Handicap Accessibility Site Condition Hazardous Material

Renovation Study - Additions

   Program spaces not currently provided at Firestone/Litchfield;  Sufficient quantity of classrooms and SPED spaces.

 Theatre Classroom, Practice/Ensemble spaces, Digital Studio, Dressing Rooms/Makeup, control room.

 Additional Life Skills, Career-Based Intervention, OT/PT spaces.

Inadequate/insufficient Spaces;  Special Education, Music Theory, Life Skills, Project Lead-the Way, undersized classrooms.

 Shortage of available spaces requires use of spaces not intended for designed use.

Excessive Space;  Corridors, LRC, Large Instruction Area, certain classrooms, computer labs, drawing studio, Business Ed.

Additions Required; 48,000 sq. ft.

Renovation Study – Area Summary

Current Building Area Oversize/Non-Programmable Space Current Usable Programmable Space (current, less non-programmable) Additions Required to meet 364,000 s.f. Program

Renovation Study – Additions

   Academic additions to meet curriculum needs.

Cafeterias and Kitchens undersized.

Visual & Performing Arts program needs.

 Theatre Classroom, dance, music.

 PE/Athletics locker room/coaches areas.

Renovation Study – Considerations

Renovation Impacts •Operational Impact •Parking/site circulation •Separate kitchens •Additions impact parking and athletic fields •Larger, less efficient building to maintain and operate than new build •Physical Structure •LEED Silver Certification challenges (envelope, energy efficiency) •Building footprint and configuration •Low structure – academic areas •Construction •Phased construction – adds to construction cost and schedule •Educational Impact •Classrooms do not meet current design standards •Handicap accessibility •Low ceilings •Remote/isolated spaces.

Next Steps

     Renovation study validated current decision to replace Submit POR to JBR/Board Continue Design Process  Additional meetings with staff, administrators, curriculum and community  Develop site/building layout concepts   Develop renderings Bidding Documents Construction Timeline   Bidding Documents : Spring 2013 Construction: Spring 2013 through summer 2015
